Placental-Cadherin (CDH3), a cell adhesion molecule, is associated with the function of cells to bind with other cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM). CDH3 is highly expressed in many malignancies, and has been proved it could be a serum marker to monitor colorectal cancer. Inhibited CDH3 expression could upregulate E-cadherin, downregulated N-cadherin, which may control invasion and migration. Integrin alpha V beta 8 is a receptor for fibronectin. It recognizes the sequence R-G-D in its ligands. ITGAVB8 does not appear to assume different activation states; and the cytoplasmic tail does not connect to the cytoskeleton. It binds ligands containing an RGD motif; including vitronectin; fibrin and the latency associated peptide (LAP) of the latent TGF-beta complex. High affinity binding of alpha V beta 8 to LAP allows proteolytic cleavage by MT1-MMP; which releases active TGF-beta. This mechanism differs from that of alpha V beta 6; the other alpha V integrin which can activate TGF-beta from latency through non-proteolytic mechanisms.

Immunoglobulin superfamily member 3 (IGSF3), also known as Glu-Trp-Ile EWI motif-containing protein 3, IgSF3 and EWI-3 and IGSF3, is a single-pass type I membrane protein that belongs to the EWI subfamily of the Ig superfamily of molecules. IGSF3 has an overall structural similarity and strong sequence similarity to V7, a human leukocyte surface protein. IGSF3 contains eight Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. IGSF3 is expressed in a wide range of tissues with high expression in the placenta, kidney, and lung. EWI-2 is part of a novel Ig subfamily that includes EWI-F (F2alpha receptor regulatory protein (FPRP), CD9P-1 ), EWI-3 (IGSF3), and EWI-101 (CD101).
