Ion channel is a pathway for the passive transport of various inorganic ions across the membrane, which is composed of special proteins produced by cells. They gather and are embedded in the cell membrane, forming pores occupied by water molecules in the middle, and these pores are the channels for water-soluble substances to enter and exit the cell quickly. In the central nervous system, ion channels are implicated in many diseases such as, but not limited to, ataxia, paralysis, epilepsy, and deafness.
