Succinate Receptor 1 (GPR91) is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in the kidney, liver, and immune cells. GPR91 regulates multiple physiological processes by recognising and binding succinate, including blood pressure regulation, inflammatory responses, and metabolic control. In the kidneys, GPR91 activation modulates water-salt balance and blood pressure by promoting renin release and influencing tubular function. Within immune cells, GPR91 activation enhances inflammatory cytokine secretion, participating in inflammatory responses. Furthermore, GPR91 influences cellular metabolic states by regulating mitochondrial function and energy metabolism. Abnormal GPR91 expression is associated with various diseases, including hypertension, inflammatory conditions, and metabolic disorders.
