ASCT

Alanine Serine Cysteine Transporter (ASCT) belongs to the SLC1 family, comprising ASCT1 (SLC1A4) and ASCT2 (SLC1A5). ASCTs are sodium-dependent neutral amino acid exchanger transporters located on the cell membrane, regulating intracellular and extracellular neutral amino acid equilibrium. They play a pivotal role in maintaining amino acid metabolic balance under both physiological and pathological conditions. ASCT2 is particularly active in rapidly proliferating cells, including various cancer types, supporting tumour growth and mTOR signalling pathway activation by transporting key nutrients such as glutamine.
