Urea Transporter (UT) constitutes a class of membrane proteins primarily responsible for the transmembrane transport of urea. UT is expressed in the kidneys, liver, and red blood cells, participating in the regulation of urea reabsorption and secretion. In the kidneys, UT activity is crucial for maintaining the medullary osmotic gradient and urine concentration processes. UT expression in red blood cells also contributes to regulating intracellular urea levels, influencing erythrocyte osmotic pressure and stability. Abnormal UT expression or dysfunction is associated with various diseases, such as uraemia, urea cycle disorders, and renal diseases.
