Endonuclease is a class of enzymes that recognize and cleave phosphodiester bonds within nucleic acid molecules. They can act specifically on DNA or RNA, and are classified as restriction endonucleases, nucleic acid endonucleases, etc., depending on the recognition sequence and the cleavage site.
