Y Box Binding Protein 1 (YB1, YBX1) is a multifunctional cold shock domain protein widely distributed in eukaryotic cells. YB1 participates in numerous cellular processes, including transcriptional regulation, mRNA stability, translational control, and DNA repair. By binding to specific DNA and RNA sequences, YB1 modulates gene expression and mRNA stability. During stress responses, YB1 binds to the 5' untranslated region of mRNA, inhibiting translation initiation and thereby regulating protein synthesis. Furthermore, YB1 participates in DNA damage repair by binding to damaged DNA sequences, facilitating the recruitment of DNA repair enzymes. Abnormal YB1 expression is associated with various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
