Dicentrine HCl is the salt form of Dicentrine, an alpha 1-adrenoceptor antagonist effective against human hyperplastic prostates.

Dicentrine is an alkaloid-enriched fraction and the primary alkaloid of the leaves of Ocotea puberula (Lauraceae), a native Brazilian plant traditionally used by Indigenous populations for skin affections, and dicentrine further demonstrates pharmacological activity as an α1-adrenoceptor antagonist in human hyperplastic prostate tissue. Dicentrine has been evaluated using radioligand binding assays with [3H]prazosin and in vitro isometric tension experiments, confirming functional α1-adrenoceptor involvement and supporting therapeutic relevance in disorders associated with prostate hyperplasia.

Dicentrine, (-)- (NSC-251699) is an aporphinic alkaloid found in several plant species, which showed significant antinociceptive activity in an acute model of visceral pain in mice.

Dehydrodicentrine showed strong acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory effects with the IC50 value of 2.98 μM.

Neolitsine has anthelmintic activity, it exhibits EC90 values (concentration at which 90% loss of larval motility is observed) of 6.4 microg/mL.Neolitsine and dicentrine have potent vasorelaxing effects on precontracted rat aortic preparations with mean IC 50 values between 0.08 and 2.48 microM.
