n-acetyl-d-glucosamine

N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine (NAG) is a monosaccharide derivative of glucose. It is released by the action of O-GlcNAcase, in mammalian systems from proteins that have been post-translationally modified with O-GlcNAc.

UDP-GlcNAc is a fundamental component and precursor of bacterial peptidoglycan. Additionally, UDP-GlcNAc acts as an agonist for the P2Y14 receptor, which can inhibit the formation of cAMP.

Chitosan (MW 150000) (Deacetylated chitin) is a linear polysaccharide made up of randomly distributed β-(1-4)-linked D-glucosamine (deacetylated unit) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.

N,N'-Diacetylchitobiose is a chitin di-sugar and lysozyme inhibitor. It can serve as the sole carbon source for wild-type Escherichia coli and can reverse myocardial inhibition in canine Escherichia coli sepsis.
