Description
N,N'-Diacetylchitobiose is a chitin di-sugar and lysozyme inhibitor. It can serve as the sole carbon source for wild-type Escherichia coli and can reverse myocardial inhibition in canine Escherichia coli sepsis.
In vitro
N,N'-Diacetylchitobiose (10 mM) promotes growth of wild-type Escherichia coli expressing the cel operon[1].
N,N'-Diacetylchitobiose (0.6 mM) is transported/phosphorylated by the E. coli phosphoenolpyruvate: hexokinase system[2].
In vivo
N,N'-Diacetylchitobiose (50 mg/kg, 0.5 h; followed by 5 mg/kg/h for 2 h) reversed canine myocardial suppression and reduced norepinephrine demand in an E. coli preparation [3].
