DFHBI, a small molecule resembling the chromophore of green fluorescent protein (GFP), is essentially nonfluorescent when unbound. The Spinach-DFHBI complex, however, exhibits bright fluorescence both in vitro and in living cells.

DFHBI-1T is an RNA aptamer-activated fluorescent probe that transmits through cell membranes.DFHBI-1T can be used for dynamic localization imaging of RNA in living cells.

DFHBI-2T, a membrane-permeable fluorescence probe activated by RNA aptamers (ex/em=500 nm/523 nm), is utilized for imaging RNA within live cells.

DFHBI-BI is an analog of the green fluorescent protein chromophore. It can bind to Broccoli (a fluorescent RNA aptamer) and is activated by this interaction, exhibiting higher binding affinity. In mammalian cells, DFHBI-BI prevents thermal denaturation of Broccoli at 37°C, thereby increasing the formation of Broccoli-BI complexes with fluorescent properties. Its fluorescence wavelength is 559/635 nm.
