Martyniaceae is a small family of flowering plants within the order Lamiales, often known for species with sticky or glandular fruits. Members of this family produce secondary metabolites such as iridoids, phenylethanoids, and phenolic compounds. In biomedical research, Martyniaceae is of interest for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, although it remains relatively underrepresented in pharmacological studies. Its ecological specialization in seed dispersal mechanisms also makes it valuable for studying the co-evolution of plant chemistry and animal interactions.
