Haloragaceae

Haloragaceae is a family of flowering plants found in aquatic and semi-aquatic environments, including genera such as Myriophyllum. These plants produce secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and tannin-like compounds, which contribute to their adaptation to submerged or wet habitats. In biomedical research, Haloragaceae is of interest for its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, although it remains relatively underexplored compared to terrestrial plant families. Its aquatic adaptation also makes it valuable for studying environmental stress biology and the evolution of metabolite biosynthesis in water-associated plants. The family represents a niche but potentially useful source of novel natural products.
