Laurdan (6-Dodecanoyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene) is a fluorescent membrane probe that is spectrally sensitive to the phospholipid phase of the cell membrane to which it binds.

Mito-laurdan bromide, a derivative of Laurdan, serves as a fluorescent probe. It contains a cationic triphenylphosphine segment that associates with the mitochondrial inner membrane via a 3-carbon linker due to its negative membrane potential.

Golgi-Laurdan, a derivative of Laurdan, is a fluorescent probe with structural similarity to NBD C6-ceramide and is utilized for studying the Golgi apparatus.
