α-L-Rhamnose monohydrate (6-deoxy-L-mannose monohydrate) is a component of bacterial polysaccharides where it plays an important role in pathogenicity.

Addition of the Rhamnose (6-Deoxy-L-mannose)-rich polysaccharide, RROP-1, to normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) and human endothelial cells produced a dose-dependent stimulation of the calcium-signaling pathway, inducing fast and transient increases in Ca2 influx and intracellular free Ca2 level.

GDP-D-mannose disodium consists of GDP-α-D-mannose and GDP-β-D-mannose. GDP-α-D-mannose serves as a donor substrate for mannosyltransferases and a precursor for GDP-β-L-fucose biosynthesis. It competitively inhibits GTP with a Ki of 14.7 μM and non-competitively inhibits mannose-1-P with a Ki of 115 μM.
