It is found widely in nature and is involved in numerous enzymatic reactions in which it serves as an electron carrier by being alternately oxidized (NAD+) and reduced (NADH).

β-nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a natural nucleotide and a key intermediate in the synthesis of coenzyme I (NAD+). β-nicotinamide mononucleotide is involved in a number of biochemical reactions in the human body, which are related to immunity and metabolism.

Beta-Galactose dehydrogenase catalyzes the conversion of galactose into galactonolactone, simultaneously reducing NAD to fluorescent NADH. This enzyme is useful for the determination of galactose [1].
