The Grossulariaceae family belongs to the class of dicotyledons and is primarily distributed in the temperate and subarctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Most plants in this family are ornamental shrubs; their fruits are rich in vitamins and organic acids and can be eaten fresh or processed into juices, jams, and other products; Some species are used medicinally, possessing properties such as relieving surface symptoms and dispelling cold, as well as suppressing coughs and resolving phlegm. Among them, the black barberry (Ribes nigrum) is used medicinally; the medicinal parts include the fruit, leaves, and root bark, which can treat anemia and arthritis. The leaves can suppress coughs and promote diuresis, while the root bark, when applied topically, can treat contusions and bruises. To date, natural compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, anthocyanins, and various organic acids have been isolated from plants in this family.
