Crossosomatales is a small order of flowering plants within the rosid clade, comprising woody shrubs and trees such as those in Crossosomataceae and Staphyleaceae. Members of this order produce secondary metabolites including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and triterpenoids, which contribute to their stress resistance and ecological adaptation. In biomedical research, Crossosomatales is of interest for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective potential, although it remains relatively underexplored compared to larger rosid orders. Its phylogenetic position makes it useful for studying early diversification of rosid secondary metabolism and woody plant chemical evolution.
