Afabicin (formerly Debio 1450, AFN-1720) is a prodrug of afabicin desphosphono, an enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (FabI) inhibitor, and is a first-in-class antibiotic with a novel mode of action to specifically target fatty acid synthesis in Staphylococcus spp.

Afabicin (Debio 1450) is a precursor drug to Debio1452 that is resistant to Staphylococcus staphylococci and has no significant effect on other Gram-positive and negative bacteria. Debio1452 is a FabI inhibitor that inhibits lipid synthesis in staphylococci.

Afabicin is an antibiotic targeting Staphylococcus aureus, exhibiting highly effective inhibitory activity against both susceptible and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) S. aureus strains. It is used to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections. Afabicin is the prodrug of Debio1452.
