DMNPE (D-Luciferin 1-(4,5-dimethoxy-2- nitrophenyl) ethyl ester) is a chemical agent that forms stable complexes with DNA molecules, effectively "caging" or blocking the biological activity of DNA. Once inside the cell, activated D-luciferin is released either by UV light or catalytically by endogenous intracellular esterases.This product makes it easier to detect changes in gene expression in living cells.

DMNPE-caged ATP

DMNPE-4 AM-caged-calcium, a photolabile analogue of EGTA, is a highly efficient Ca2+-selective cage. At pH 7.2 and pH 7.4, its Kd for Ca2+ is measured at 48 nM and 19 nM, respectively. Upon photolysis, DMNPE-4 AM-caged-calcium exhibits a decreased affinity for Ca2+ (~2 nM Kd).

DMNP-EDTA is a caged Ca2+ chelator which photouncages Cu2+ ions for light-controlled gene expression in yeast.
