Aminoguanidine hydrochloride (Hydrazinecarboximidamide) is a diamine oxidase and NO synthase inhibitor, used in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

Aminoguanidine hemisulfate, an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthases (NOS) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), effectively suppresses ANE-induced ROS production in vitro and is utilized in cancer research [1].

G256 (Compound 1) is a guanidinyl hydrazone and can also be considered a Schiff base of aminoguanidine. It exhibits antiarrhythmic activity. G256 is the reduced form of NOH-G256, prepared from rabbit and rat liver homogenates using microsomal enzymes in the presence of NADPH and NADH.

Pimagedine is a prototype therapeutic agent for the prevention of formation of advanced glycation endproducts. Pimagedine reacts rapidly with α,β-dicarbonyl compounds such as methylglyoxal, glyoxal, and 3-deoxyglucosone to prevent the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs).

Vogeloside shows inhibition of nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophages; its activity is comparable to that of aminoguanidine, a classic inhibitor.
