Solanaceae

Solanaceae is a family of flowering plants (order Solanales) with 102 genera and about 2,280 species. The Solanaceae family produces a range of biologically active alkaloids that include nicotine and tropane alkaloids. Tropane alkaloids such as hyoscyamine and scopolamine, which are found mainly in Atropa, Duboisia, Hyoscyamus, and Scopolia species, together with their semisynthetic derivatives, are useful as parasympatholytics that competitively antagonize acetylcholine.
