Parmeliaceae

The Parmeliaceae is a large and diverse family of Lecanoromycetes. With over 2700 species in 71 genera, it is the largest family of lichen-forming fungi. Lichenized fungi are known to produce several secondary metabolites that play a crucial role in systematics and taxonomy. Lichen-derived extracts and their secondary metabolites are known to have antioxidant and cytotoxic properties.
