Ranunculaceae

Ranunculaceae comprises about 2,252 species in 62 genera of flowering plants, mostly herbs, which are widely distributed in all temperate and subtropical regions. Coptidis rhizome (CR), also known as Huanglian in Chinese, is the rhizome of Coptis chinensis Franch. CR has been used to treat various inflammatory disorders and related diseases for a thousand years and has functions of clearing heat, drying dampness, and detoxification according to the traditional Chinese Medicinal theory. Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi in Chinese), which are the lateral roots of Aconitum Carmichaelii Debx, is widely used in China to treat many neurological diseases. The most well-known medicinal compounds of Aconitum are diterpenoid alkaloids.
