In vitro | In human fibroblasts, progesterone is metabolized into 5α-pregnane-3β,6α-diol-20-one [1]. Similarly, in the C4.2 cell line, pregnenolone and progesterone are efficiently converted into 5α-pregnan-3β,6α-diol-20-one, with the process reaching near-complete levels after 24 hours and 18 hours, respectively. This process of preferentially producing 5α-pregnan-3β,6α-diol-20-one from early steroid precursors does not rely on CYP17A1 but is instead contingent on the activity of 3β-HSD [2]. |
