Isoquinoline, 5-iodo- is a potent and selective inhibitor of SARM1(IC50 = 75 nM) by preventing axonal degeneration and by allowing functional recovery of a metastable pool of damaged, but viable, axons.

In vitro
Treatment with the isoquinoline DSRM-3716produced dose-dependent inhibition of cADPR increase (IC50 = 2.8 μM) and substantial preservation of NAD+ in these cultures in a manner consistent with engagement and inhibition of SARM1 enzymatic NADase activity inside the cells. DSRM-3716prevented NfL release from severed axons in a dose-dependent manner[1].
