Description | Safrazine is an irreversible, non-specific and orally active monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. Safrazine can be used in depression research[1]. |
In vitro | Safrazine (0.1-0.5 μM; 0-80 min) increases inhibitory potency through time-dependent preincubation [1]. |
In vivo | Safrazine administered orally in male ddY mice at dosages of 3, 10, and 30 mg/kg significantly inhibits both 5-HT and PEA deaminations, without selectivity toward either substrate. At a dosage of 3 mg/kg, it inhibited 5-HT and PEA deaminations by 77% and 71%, respectively. Complete inhibition of both deaminations was observed at 10 and 30 mg/kg. Additionally, the increase in monoamine contents induced by safrazine lasted for at least 24 hours. |
