Bioactivity

Description	Mal-Pc, a phthalocyanine-based molecular photosensitizer featuring maleimides, interacts with GSH to diminish its levels and decrease aggregation, enhancing the ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species)-dependent efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in targeting cancer cells [1].
In vitro	Mal-Pc, featuring two axial maleimide substituents, accelerates accumulation in cancer cells, enabling a reaction with GSH which leads to GSH depletion and reduced aggregation. This enhances the ROS-mediated anticancer efficacy of PDT [1]. Fluorescence imaging revealed that Mal-Pc is rapidly cleared from normal cells, attributed to the formation of a highly hydrophilic reaction product [1].
