Cefotaxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Like other third-generation cephalosporins, it has broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. | In vitro | It has activity in presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. Its spectrum of activity includes most strains of bacterial pathogens responsible for septicaemia, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, obstetric and gynaecological infections, and other various types of infections[1]. |
