Description
Lysine monohydrate is one of the essential amino acids for humans and can be used in basic and experimental studies related to vascular calcification (VC) and acute pancreatitis.
In vitro
Methods: Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) were used as the research object and treated with lysine monohydrate.
Results: Lysine monohydrate decreased plasma iPTH levels and increased plasma concentrations of alanine, proline, arginine and homoarginine, thereby inhibiting apoptosis and mineral deposition in VSMCs [1].
In vivo
Methods: Adenine-induced rats were used as the research model and orally administered (p.o.) 40 μg/kg of Lysine monohydrate.
Results: This treatment ameliorated arterial calcification in adenine-treated rats and protected their femurs against osteoporotic lesions [1].
Methods: Male mice were used as the research model and administered 10 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg of Lysine monohydrate by gavage (i.g.) and oral administration (p.o.), respectively.
Results: This treatment inhibited pancreatic tissue damage in mice [2].
