| In vitro | S-Adenosyl-L-methionine at a concentration of 300 µM for 24 or 48 hours in its 1,4-butanedisulfonate form induces apoptosis and facilitates cell cycle arrest in Cal-33 and JHU-SCC-011 cells [4]. Similarly, S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (300 µM, 24 h) 1,4-butanedisulfonate reduces migration in both Cal-33 and JHU-SCC-011 cell lines [4]. Additionally, when administered at doses ranging from 5 to 40 μg/mL for 48 hours, 1,4-butanedisulfonate-derivative S-Adenosyl-L-methionine modulates the expression of DNMTs, thereby preserving the anticancer efficacy of 5-FU [5]. |
| In vivo | S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (30 mg/kg, orally administered for 3 consecutive days) 1,4-butanedisulfonate has been shown to prevent ASD-like behaviors induced by early postnatal valproate exposure in young mice [6]. At doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg administered orally, 1,4-butanedisulfonate also exhibits antiepileptic, memory-enhancing, and antioxidant properties in a pentylenetetrazole-induced rat model of epilepsy [7]. |
