Methyl jasmonate ((-)-Methyl jasmonate) is a hormone involved in plant signaling, inducing oxidative stress and accumulation of secondary metabolites in plant cells and organ cultures, and regulating the biosynthesis of other plant hormones. Methyl jasmonate induces plant defense responses against Andean lupin insects. Methyl jasmonate has anti-inflammatory activity.

| In vitro | METHODS: AGS cells were treated with methyl jasmonate (10-3200 μg/mL) to determine its effects on cell viability and cell migration of AGS gastric cancer cell line. RESULTS:AGS cell viability decreased with increasing doses of methyl jasmonate-treated plant leaf extracts. The inhibition level was as high as 50% at a final concentration of 200 μg/mL, and a greater effect (~92%) was detected at a dose of 400 μg/mL; at all concentrations studied, methyl jasmonate-treated plant leaf extracts were able to reduce (in a dose-dependent manner) the migration ability of AGS cells.
