SB 203186 is an exceptionally potent and highly selective indole-based 5-HT4 receptor antagonist (Ki = 0.2 nM). It completely blocks 5-HT4-mediated depolarization and cholinergic signal amplification in both central and peripheral neurons at picomolar levels, widely used to investigate the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal smooth muscle motility disorders and arrhythmias.
