Fukinolic acid is a benzyl tartaric acid ester and functions as a vasodilator with activity against enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) replication. As a receptor-operated Ca2+ channel (ROC) inhibitor, fukinolic acid impedes the influx of extracellular Ca2+ via norepinephrine-activated ROCs without affecting voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels.

| Description | Fukinolic acid is a benzyl tartaric acid ester and functions as a vasodilator with activity against enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) replication. | In vitro | Fukinolic acid at a concentration of 300 μM over 1 hour induces non-endothelium-dependent relaxation in norepinephrine-precontracted rat aortic rings, and it inhibits Ca 2+ influx, reducing norepinephrine-induced contractions. At 4.3 µg/mL over 4 days, it decreases EV71 BrCr virus-induced cytopathic effects by 50%, while at 500 µg/mL, it causes 50% cytotoxicity. Additionally, at concentrations ranging from 0 to 230 µM over 16 hours in COS-1 cells, fukinolic acid does not inhibit EV-A71 3C protease activity. |
