Description | 5-HT6/7 antagonist 1 is a dual 5-HT6/7/2A and D2 receptor antagonist for the study of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. |
In vitro | Constituting a promising strategy for treating symptoms of BPSD, targeting 5-HT6 and/or 5-HT7 receptors with antagonist drugs may avoid some of the side effects associated with current antipsychotic drugs. Nevertheless, given the complex pathology of dementia and the accompanying behavioral and psychological symptoms, it seems unlikely that focusing on a single therapeutic target would be sufficient to provide adequate clinical benefit. Therefore, the successful development of novel anti-BPSD agents is likely to involve a 'designed' multifactorial approach[1]. |
