Description
Glucodigifucoside, a cardiac glycoside that can be isolated from digitalis seeds, is specifically cytotoxic to human renal adenocarcinoma cells.
In vitro
Glucodigifucoside exhibited potent and carcinoma-specific cytotoxicity, with a six-fold lower IC50 value against ACHN than that against HK-2. Measurement of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor levels revealed that upregulation of p21/Cip1 expression was involved in the carcinomaspecific cytotoxicity of 2. Further, Glucodigifucoside also exhibited carcinoma-specific cytotoxicity toward the hepatocellular carcinoma cell line.[1]
