Description
BW 723C86 is a selective 5-HT2B receptor agonist with anxiolytic activity. It induces overeating and reduced grooming in rats and can be used in neurodegenerative disease research.
In vivo
Subcutaneous administration of 10 and 20 mg/kg BW 723C86 hydrochloride prolonged the duration of feeding behavior in ad libitum-fed rats over a 15-minute period in the observation cage. By systemic administration (subcutaneous injection of 1, 10, and 20 mg/kg, 30 minutes prior to testing), but not intracerebroventricular administration (1-30 μg), BW 723C86 hydrochloride similarly significantly reduced the frequency of grooming behavior in rats in the observation cage.
