| Description | Bafilomycin B1 is a macrolide antibiotic discovered in Streptomyces gresuis. It exhibits neuroprotective effects and V-ATPase inhibitory activity, and can also inhibit LDL-induced lipid droplet accumulation. |
| In vitro | Bafilomycin B1 (1 nM, 24 h) significantly suppressed chloroquine-induced death in cerebellar granule neurons[1]. Bafilomycin B1 (0.1-10 nM, 48 h) did not induce cell death or apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells at concentrations ≤ 1 nM, and significantly attenuated chloroquine-induced cell death when 50 μM chloroquine was added [2]. Bafilomycin B1 (10–40 nM, 37°C) significantly inhibited surface binding, intracellular accumulation, and degradation of oxidized 125I-LDL in J774 cells [3]. |
| In vivo | In homozygous nematodes overexpressing human wild-type α-synuclein in dopaminergic neurons, Bafilomycin B1 (50–150 μg/mL, 24 hours) provided significant protection against α-synuclein-induced dopaminergic degeneration [2]. |
