Description	Loperamide oxide (R 58425) is a secreted antidiarrheal agent that increases peristalsis and inhibits intestinal absorption of water and ions and is used in the study of chronic diarrhea in patients with Crohn's disease.
In vivo	The effects of Loperamide oxide on basal and prostaglandin E2-stimulated fluid transport by rat small intestine have been investigated. In contrast to Loperamide, Loperamide oxide, when applied intraperitoneally, failed to inhibit either basal or prostaglandin E2-stimulated fluid transport. [1]
