Glyceryl monocaprate (2,3-Dihydroxypropyl decanoate) has inhibitory effect on Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). It also offers an effective treatment for herpes labialiss. Glyceryl monocaprate is a capric acid against 1-monoglyceride gram-positive bacterial infections.
In vitro
Glyceryl monocaprate has antimicrobial activity against gram-positive ATCC SA 29123 [1].
In vivo
Glycerol monocaprate in combination with low-dose doxycycline is effective in treating cold sores. It significantly reduces time to healing and pain compared to placebo and monocaprin alone [2].
