Description
Brofaromine (CGP 11305A) is an MAO inhibitor (IC50: 0.2 μM for MAO-A).

In vitro
To assess whether the protective effect is related to MAO-A inhibition or another mechanism, the activity of Brofaromine on MAO-A in cultured cortical cells is determined. The cells exhibit significant MAO-A activity, which Brofaromine inhibits in a concentration-dependent manner (IC50: 0.19 μM; Hill coefficient: 0.96), with nearly complete inhibition at 10 μM. The IC50 range of Brofaromine is 0.01 μM to 0.1 μM.
