| Description | Tylosin phosphate is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces freii and intended exclusively for animal use. Tylosin phosphate inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit; it exhibits high antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasmas, and certain Gram-negative bacteria. Tylosin phosphate is a feed additive widely used to promote animal growth. It is also used in research on bacterial dysentery and respiratory diseases in poultry, swine, and cattle. |
| In vitro | Tylosin phosphate also prevents growth of Gram-negative strains, with MICs of 64 μg/mL, 32 μg/mL, 512 μg/mL and 1 μg/mL for M. haemolytica 11935, P. multocida 4407, E. coli ATCC 25922 and E. coli AS19rlmAI, respectively.[2] |
| In vivo | Methods: Tylosin phosphate was administered subcutaneously to Balb/C mice at doses of 10 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg, followed by intraperitoneal injection of 250 μg of LPS. Mice were euthanized in batches at 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours post-administration, and serum was collected via cardiac puncture. Results: Tylosin phosphate significantly reversed LPS-induced cytokine dysregulation. [1] |
