| Description | Trypaflavin (bromide) is an orally active acridine compound that acts as an antimalarial agent. It can penetrate germ cells and induce abnormalities in unfertilized egg cells. Additionally, Trypaflavin (bromide) increases the frequency of chromosomal aberrations and exhibits weak mutagenicity. It is highly toxic to Leishmania, causing immediate lysis of the promastigote form. |
| In vivo | On day 7 post-conception, an acute single dose of Trypaflavin (50 mg/kg; p.o.; bromide) was administered, inducing a dominant lethal mutation frequency of 13.25 in F1 female offspring of pregnant C3H mice. Meanwhile, Trypaflavin (2 mg/kg/day; p.o.; 50 days; bromide) slightly elevated pre-implantation egg loss and fetal death rates in female C3H mice without causing significant dominant lethal mutations. Additionally, there was a moderate increase in the total chromosomal aberration rate to 21.1% in MII-stage oocytes of female NMRI mice. |
