Deoxycytidine Kinase, Human (EC 2.7.1.74) acts as the rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo synthesis pathway. It facilitates the uptake of extracellular deoxyribonucleosides, necessary for intracellular deoxyribonucleotide metabolism. Within the cell, it operates as a dimer to phosphorylate deoxycytidine (its primary substrate), deoxyadenosine, and deoxyguanosine, and it can activate various nucleoside analogs.
