cis-Coronaric acid is the trans-epoxide of linoleic acid, generated during the oxidative burst of neutrophils. It can be extracted from the lungs of hyperoxic experimental rodents and from humans suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The cytotoxicity of cis-Coronaric acid primarily manifests as mitochondrial dysfunction, which may be linked to its diol metabolites and its parent epoxide.
