Mutanolysin belongs to the class of N-acetylmuramidases and is a biochemical reagent used for the lysis of Gram-positive bacteria. Mutanolysin effectively hydrolyzes the peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls and is frequently utilized to prepare high-quality nucleic acids and intact ribosomal RNA from Gram-positive species like Listeria. It is widely employed in microbiology for cell lysis and molecular biology sample preparation.

| In vitro | In vitro, the use of Mutanolysin for the lysis of Listeria and other Gram-positive bacteria has been demonstrated to be a rapid and efficient method. This process achieves complete cell disruption while maintaining the structural integrity of intracellular macromolecules, such as ribosomal RNA, facilitating subsequent molecular detection and sequence analysis [1]. |
