Description
8-Chloro-cAMP sodium is a cAMP analog that induces growth arrest and modulates cAMP-dependent PKA activity. This compound also exhibits anticancer activity.
In vitro
8-Chloro-cAMP sodium significantly reduces the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) in vitro, diminishes the expression of protein kinase A (PKA) RIα subunit, and promotes the expression of PKA RIIβ subunit.
In vivo
In a study involving rats with balloon injuries, 8-Chloro-cAMP (12 mg/kg) sodium was shown to decrease the neointimal area and neointima/media ratio in a dose-dependent fashion following the injury. Furthermore, 8-Chloro-cAMP was effective in reducing the proliferative activity of VSMCs in vivo.
