| Description | Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is a biocide and membrane disruptor. It damages bacterial cell membranes, alters their structure and permeability, and induces leakage of soluble proteins and ions within bacterial cells. Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin exhibits bactericidal activity. |
| In vitro | Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin exhibits potent bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli 8099 at concentrations of 5-25 mg/L over a 3-minute exposure. Concentrations of 20 mg/L and 25 mg/L result in a significant reduction in viable bacteria, with decreases of 6.56 and 6.99 log 10, respectively, after 3 minutes. Lower concentrations produce minimal or no bactericidal effects. Additionally, at 20 mg/L, this compound induces cell elongation in E. coli 8099, indicating an SOS response, with visibly less membrane damage compared to other treatments. Furthermore, at 20 mg/L, limited leakage of potassium and magnesium ions occurs within 1 to 20 minutes post-exposure, with ion levels remaining near baseline throughout the 20-minute duration. |

Dissolve 2 mg of the compound in 100 μL DMSO
to obtain a stock solution at a concentration of 20 mg/mL . If the required concentration exceeds the compound's known solubility, please contact us for technical support before proceeding.
1) Add 100 μL of the DMSO
stock solution to 400 µL PEG300
and mix thoroughly until the solution becomes clear.
2) Add 50 µL Tween 80 and mix well until fully clarified.
3) Add 450 µL Saline,PBS or ddH2O
and mix thoroughly until a homogeneous solution is obtained.
