| In vitro | SAAP-148 inhibits S. aureus and P. aeruginosa in PBS and plasma, with LC99 values of 1.6, 1.6, 12.8, and 12.8 μM, respectively. At concentrations of 0.4-3.2 μM over 2 hours, SAAP-148 interacts with bacterial membranes, causing permeabilization and leading to bacterial death. |
| In vivo | SAAP-148 (30 mg of 0.125-2% w/w ointment, applied topically as a single dose) effectively eradicates Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and A. baumannii on the skin, alleviating abraded skin infections in a mouse model without exhibiting toxicity (2000 mg/kg). |
