Antibacterialagent 220 is a potent antibacterial compound that directly disrupts bacterial cell membranes. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including resistant strains.

Antibacterial agent 220 (compound 43) possesses an extended hydrophobic chain and exhibits strong antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria with low hemolytic activity (HC50>200 μg/mL). The MIC values for Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213, MRSA N315, MRSA NCTC10442, and Escherichia coli ATCC25922 are 1.56 μg/mL, 0.78 μg/mL, 0.78 μg/mL, and 6.25 μg/mL, respectively.

In a mouse corneal infection model, Antibacterial agent 220 (compound 43; 0.5%; Localized application to the corneas of infected mice) demonstrated significant in vivo antibacterial efficacy.
